A team of volunteers from LRG gathered on the Hog’s Back, a chalk escarpment on the North Downs, just outside Guildford for a day of hard work tree popping to clear the area for wildflowers.
The session was run by Louis as part of the Space4Nature project with Buglife, one of GreenTheUK's charity partners. In this crucial habitat chalk grassland, you can find up to 30 different plant species in just one square metre, so hectares (10,000 square metres) can support up to thousands of species. Examples of plants which can thrive here include basil, marjoram and much more all of which provide different types of food supporting different insects.
Overall, LRG is restoring 70,000 sq m of wildflowers in 2023-24.
