Ranscombe Farm Reserve
Buglife and Plantlife
05 Jun 2025
On 5 June, a dedicated team of volunteers from VolkerHighways joined Plantlife for a rewarding day of conservation at Ranscombe Farm Reserve, a flagship reserve and a nationally important biodiversity site in Medway. The day focused on supporting the ongoing efforts to protect and monitor wildflower habitats and rare species. Volunteers were tasked with walking though the picturesque landscape to identify and document a rare plant- Salvia Pratensis commonly known as Meadow Clary. Fortunately, after surveying the area, 210 of the flowers were identified, which was only 90 off the highest number recorded of the plant. This proves the conservation, managed by Plantlife, is effectively preserving the habitat enough for survival. This initiative forms part of VolkerHighways’ wider commitment to wildflower restoration across Medway in partnership with Buglife, which also includes supporting local schools to enhance green spaces and promote biodiversity. Thank you VolkerHighways for dedicating your time to support wildlife surveying, an essential part of conservation.
