Walthamstow Wetlands

On the last Friday of August, the LMAX Group team returned to Walthamstow Wetlands for a day of conservation and connection with nature.
The morning began with scythes and shears in hand, cutting and clearing the wildflower meadow to make way for next year’s growth - carefully leaving any blooms still vital for pollinators and other invertebrates. The cuttings were raked up and taken to the compost area, ensuring nothing went to waste. Along the pathways, branches were trimmed back to let in more light, encouraging healthier growth for seasons to come.
In the afternoon, the focus shifted from hands-on conservation to birdwatching on the reservoir. As a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Walthamstow Wetlands is home to an incredible variety of birdlife, including grey herons, tufted ducks, little egrets, summer swifts, and the kingfisher, a year-round resident.
