Braeburn Park
London Wildlife Trust
15 May 2025
Facing grey skies and chilly temperatures, multiple teams from Lovell Partnerships gathered at Braeburn Park in East London to support the London Wildlife Trust in managing the park’s health.
The day began with clearing the grasslands, an important habitat for invertebrates that requires careful management to prevent it from turning into woodland, as other areas of the park have. The Lovell team worked efficiently to trim the grass and rake up the cuttings. They then moved to the hillier sections, cutting back brambles encroaching on the grasslands.
Meanwhile, another team member used a mower to maintain the edges of the park's pathways. This not only ensures the park remains accessible but also helps manage the ecotones: transitional areas between habitats. By maintaining these ecotones, a healthy gradient of plant life is created, from grasses to bushes and eventually to forest, providing a diverse range of habitats for various species.
After mowing a significant stretch of pathways, the entire Lovell team regrouped to rake the cut grass. Working in pairs and small groups, they efficiently tackled different sections.
Thanks to Lovell Partnerships for dedicating the day to improving a vital green space in London, cleaning up around the playground, and enhancing the health of the grasslands.
