Walthamstow Wetlands
London Wildlife Trust
27 Aug 2026
MSIG joined forces with London Wildlife Trust and GreenTheUK at Walthamstow Wetlands for a day of conservation, helping to protect nature and improve the educational area used by local schools and community groups. The team replaced rotten logs in the education circle, digging new holes and cutting logs to size before putting them in place. Fresh woodchip was then spread and raked across the area, helping to prepare it for the wet weather ahead. Around the pond, volunteers cleared weeds so that children can enjoy pond-dipping without finding more weeds than wildlife! Willow was also cut and used to create new fencing around the area.
The afternoon finished with a guided walk around the wetlands, giving everyone the chance to learn more about the birds, plants and other wildlife that call the site home - including a recently spotted nightingale that had paid the wetlands a visit.
