Hockeridge and Pancake Woods
Royal Forestry Society
17 Mar 2026
Thank you Riello UPS for joining GreenTheUK and the Royal Forestry Society at Hockeridge and Pancake Wood. Teams enjoyed a guided walk of the woodland, led by John from the RFS, who shared his wealth of knowledge about the woodland's history and species diversity.
Whilst the woodland is brimming with wildlife (we spotted two Brimstone butterflies emerging from hibernation to enjoy the 15 degree sunshine), the number of trees suffering from pests and diseases is a reminder of the challenges woodlands are facing due to climate change.
In the afternoon, the team were re-charged after a picnic and faced with the challenge of planting 100 trees: 75 alders and 25 oaks. Spades, mattocks and hammers were used to dig a hole and nestle the young saplings into the earth and protect the trees with a guard.
Thank you Riello UPS for bringing your can-do attitude and teamwork to the woodland.
