Leighton Redwoods
Royal Forestry Society
17 Jun 2026
For the third year running, Riello UPS joined GreenTheUK and Royal Forestry Society at Leighton Redwood in Welshpool for a Woodland Volunteering Event.
Surrounded by the UK's largest collection of redwoods, some planted as far back as 1857, we were reminded of the importance of making environmental decisions today with future generations firmly in mind.
The team experienced a fascinating guided walk through the woodland, learning about the history of Leighton Redwood and how this remarkable site became home to coast, giant and dawn redwoods. These extraordinary trees are not only resilient to fire but are also among the largest living organisms on Earth. Some redwoods can grow to over 115 metres tall and live for more than 2,000 years, putting into perspective just how young this woodland still is.
During the day, the Riello UPS team also witnessed one of the growing challenges facing woodland managers as a result of climate change: storm damage. Working together, we cleared a fallen tree from a pathway and created habitat piles from the branches, helping to support local biodiversity. With this latest volunteering day, Riello UPS has now dedicated 122 hours to supporting GreenTheUK and the Royal Forestry Society.
Thank you to everyone involved for your hard work, team spirit and enthusiasm throughout the day.
