New Cross Gate Cutting

On a surprisingly warm November day, members from different teams all across Takeda came together to make an important difference at a local nature reserve in London.
Team Takeda, together with London Wildlife Trust and GreenTheUK spent the day at New Cross Gate Cutting, a site of importance for nature conservation in South London. After an introduction and educational talk about the history of the site, the team dove right into clearing a massive hillside of brambles.
Brambles, whilst valuable to have around, can easily dominate and overcrowd entire swathes of land, choking out other important plantlife and preventing various species from benefiting from the area.
Using a variety of tools and working together in groups, members from Takeda cleared a long stretch of hillside, opening it up for new species to grow come springtime. As an added benefit, the exposed hillside will make an excellent bee bank - a physical habitat of soft soil that gets plenty of sun, which is perfect for solitary bees to burrow into.
Many thanks to Takeda for making a huge impact at an important site for biodiversity.
