VITAL HABITAT
10% of all species rely on this habitat (Environment Agency, 2021).
Nearly two thirds of our freshwater and wetland species are now declining (WWF, 2018).
NATURAL BUFFER
Peat wetlands store a third of the world's carbon deep in their soil while supporting a large diversity of plant species - they only take up 3% of the world's surface (Harenda et al., 2018). They can also protect us from flooding by storing rainfall and buffering us from the sea (Allot, T. et al., 2019).
HAPPY BY NATURE
Proven to reduce stress levels and speed up recuperation, the health benefits of wetlands are extensive (Reeves J.P et al., 2019).
Wetland plants are key ingredients for many traditional medicines (Leaman, 2016). Wetlands also clean our drinking water and produce food (Simpson, 2010).
